Financial Research Built on Real-World Experience

We've spent years watching markets behave in ways that surprised us. That's what makes our work interesting.

melthoriviax started in 2019 when three researchers realized that most financial analysis was missing something. Not complexity—but honesty about what we can and can't predict. We focus on methodology instead of promises, because that's what actually helps people make decisions.

Why We Started This

Back in early 2019, our founder Jasper Whitlock was consulting for a mid-sized investment firm in Sydney. They kept asking for certainty—exact projections, guaranteed outcomes. But financial markets don't work that way.

So we built something different. A research approach that acknowledges uncertainty while still providing useful insights. We look at patterns, yes. But we also look at what breaks those patterns. That second part matters more than most people think.

Our team grew slowly. We brought on people who understood that good research means admitting what you don't know. By 2023, we were working with clients across Australia who appreciated our approach—businesses that wanted clarity, not fairy tales.

We're still based in Salamander Bay because, honestly, the pace here suits research work. Less noise. More time to think through problems properly.

How We Actually Do the Work

Our methods combine quantitative analysis with qualitative context. Numbers tell you what happened. Context helps you understand why—and whether it might happen again.

Data Collection Standards

We source from multiple databases because single sources have blind spots. Cross-referencing catches errors that would otherwise slip through.

Our verification process involves comparing institutional data with market behavior. When they don't match, that's often where interesting insights hide.

Pattern Recognition

We look for recurring behaviors across different market conditions. Not to predict the future, but to understand probability distributions.

Some patterns hold for years. Others break suddenly. Knowing which is which requires looking at historical anomalies as carefully as historical trends.

Risk Assessment Framework

Every analysis includes a section on what could invalidate our findings. We call it the "things that would prove us wrong" section.

Clients appreciate this because it helps them plan for multiple scenarios instead of betting everything on one outcome.

Ongoing Monitoring

Markets change. Our research updates reflect that. We don't just publish and forget—we track how our analyses hold up over time.

When we get something wrong, we document why. Those mistakes often teach us more than our successes.

Team collaboration on financial methodology development

The Team Approach

We work in pairs on most projects. One person builds the model, another challenges it. This catches assumptions that don't hold up under scrutiny.

Every Friday afternoon, we review the week's work together. Not to celebrate wins, but to find weaknesses in our reasoning before clients do.

Our analysts come from different backgrounds—economics, mathematics, even psychology. That diversity helps us avoid groupthink, which is surprisingly common in financial research.

Jasper Whitlock, lead researcher at melthoriviax

Jasper Whitlock

Lead Researcher & Founder

Jasper spent eight years at institutional investment firms before realizing he preferred asking questions to making recommendations. He started melthoriviax in 2019 with the idea that research should focus on understanding, not predicting.

His background in behavioral finance influences how we approach market analysis. People make decisions based on incomplete information and emotional responses—ignoring that leads to flawed models.

Outside work, he reads extensively about probability theory and decision-making under uncertainty. That perspective shapes our methodology more than traditional financial theory does.

Our office in Salamander Bay keeps us close to the coast but connected to global markets. We find that physical distance from financial centers actually helps maintain perspective.
